Today is a cloudy n rainy day. It take us almost 3 hrs to reach Knock. The Marian Shrine lies in the beautiful sleepy village of Knock. We see hundreds of devotees walking, praying n reciting the rosary. Surprisingly, most of them are very old couples and ancient women. The shrine includes the parish church, basilica, a huge cross in honor of papal visit, a beautiful garden, apparition chapel, counselling center, museum n cafe. The apparition chapel and the tapestry in the Basilica depicts the apparition of Mother Mary, her husband n son along with St John that happened to 15 people in Knock in 1879. Magnificent statues. Holy water comes through pipes and is free not the containers. Museum is worth the time. There are 11 audio points in the museum. With the help of a PortaDAP device you can listen to the recorded message describing important events n objects displayed. That's a huge help.
In between the day brightens. Now ! Everybody is having ice creams. Believe me, I see an old lady sitting in the car, with Parkinson's affected shaking hands, eating ice cream cone. She must have come alone and soon will drive herself home. Actually all the old people in the street walk licking a cone. Suddenly it starts pouring and off we go for lunch.

Of course the steak is 'well done' but not literally. It feels, stretches n tastes rubbery. All those varieties of sauces nor butter does not offer much help. Kids order burger n chicken wings. Along comes a flood of potato chips. These people eat potato varieties like rice. But why so so much !
On our return trip, we visit the waterfall in Co. Leitrim. Breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, sheep dotted pastures, placid lake, spectacular Sligo walkways, the Lough n the waterfall. Irish poet W.B.Yeats spends his childhood holidays here. Fantastic.
