Black Beauty - Anna Sewell

Black Beauty is written by Miss Anna Sewell in 1877. It's her only one literary venture. It's the autobiography of the horse Black Beauty, in his own words. It tells how the horse is broken in and soon is owned by various people-some thoughtless and cruel, others kind and loving. Set in a time when horses and other pets were treated cruelly, it successfully draws attention to animal welfare concerns and also  portrays the life in England in 19th century. A very poignant and heart-wrenching tale. The happy ending is a huge relief.

 Why no love interests, Beauty?
